Are you trying to decide if you or a loved one has anger issues? Passive anger symptoms that you should look for aren't always as obvious and easy to spot as aggressive anger symptoms like road rage or uncontrolled rage. Learning to recognize some of the following symptoms can be beneficial to the health of you or your loved ones.
1. Self Sabotage - You consistently surround yourself with people that are unreliable, ultimately setting yourself up for failure. You may also be a habitual underachiever or very accident prone. A last sign of someone sabotaging themselves may be complaining or pointing out little things, but totally ignoring serious problems that may be at hand.
2. Blaming oneself - Someone who apologizes all of the time, is overly critical of themselves, or invites criticism may be suffering from passive anger.
3.
Displaying secretive behavior - If someone is known for backstabbing, gossiping, conning, or putting people down then there is a good chance they are passively angry. A person displaying this type of behavior may also come across as overly cynical or bitter.4. Self Sacrifice - A person that often plays the martyr is displaying this symptom. They will often be last in line or work late without pay to hear the praises that are given to them for sacrificing.
5. Manipulative - This person will provoke someone else to their breaking point and then patronize the other party for letting themselves get that far. They may also fake illnesses, sabotage relationships, or withhold money and resources in order to manipulate people into giving them what they want.
6. Detachment - Lack of emotion may also be a good word for this. Numbing one's pain with alcohol or other drugs may also fall under this symptom. Addictions to many things may start with this symptom.
7. Escape - Unlike detachment this is more like just ignoring a problem, possibly to the point of becoming phobic.
